Of course you can see large size cavities on a ct but it is not a diagnosing tool for cavities.

In brief: It Can...Sometimes

Cbct is not designed to detect cavities.
However, if the dentist/oral surgeon is looking specifically for them, they can usually be detected on a 3d scan. However, traditional or digital dental radiographs (x-rays) are much better at identifying cavities.
