In brief: Depends on stage
Early stage colon cancer can be cured.
Colon cancer can be mostly prevented through colonoscopy examinations starting at age 50, earlier if there is family history of colon cancer.

In brief: Depends on the stage
Stage 1 and 2 colon cancer have excellent survival rates following good surgery.
Stage 3 and 4 disease have worse chances and need chemotherapy, but a number of new chemotherapies introduced over the last 15 years and the ability to successfully remove isolated tumors in the lungs and liver have increased survival for stage 3 and 4 as well.
