Immediately. If you are prescribed pain medication to take postoperatively, you should eat and/or drink before taking any pain medication to avoid the potential for nausea. You may wish to start out with soft food and advance as tolerated. If your question pertains to drinking alcoholic beverages after the extraction, do not take any pain medication and consume alcoholic beverages at the same time.

My tongue has an orange coating a couple of days after a tooth extraction. I did not eat or drink anything orange. Should I be concerned?

No worries. Not to worry. Likely some slight remnants of the bleeding . Try scraping your tongue with floss or your toothbrush. Easy way is to stick your tongue way out and then put the brush on top of tongue near the back and then pull your tongue back in. Better than shoving the brush way back in to the throat area.
