How long does it take to cure a sinus infection on augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate)?

Depends. Sinus infections should be treated in several ways in addition to using antibiotics, one of the prime considerations being establishment of drainage. The other factor is whether the bacteria producing the sinusitis is sensitive to augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate). If drainage is adequate it should respond within 3 to 4 days, but cure may take longer.

Usually 36-48 hours. The Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) starts helping in about 2 days but you may not notice a huge difference in how you feel for up to a week if you had a lot of congestion in the sinuses. Allergies do tend to flare sinuses and sometimes need to be treated with a different med. that Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) alone wouldn't handle. I went to the walk in today, the doctor prescribed Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate). She said I had a sinus/ear infection. She prescribed it for 5 days. Is that long enough?

Length of Course . Most of our research on length of course for otitis media support a ten day length of therapy. Research studies vary for acute sinusitis from 10 to 21 days length of therapy. I can't say what the prescribing physician was considering in this course of antibiotics. I suggest you ask him. . Read more...
Antibiotics. Often, ear infections clear quickly, if they are mild. However, if it is truly a sinus infection, these usually require a longer course of antibiotics. As a sinus specialist, I routinely prescribed 14-21 days of antibiotics for sinus infections. I would recommend completing the course of antibiotics that were prescribed and if your symptoms are not better, see an ENT specialist who can help. Read more...

I was prescribed Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) today for my sinus and ear infection. My doc also gave me Diflucan...do I take them together or wait until yeast symptoms?

I would wait... Generally we wouldn't just use Diflucan (fluconazole) indiscriminately in anticipation of a fungal infection. Should it happen, at least you have it there. Read more...
Depends. Some women frequently get yeast infections when started on antibiotics, and a doctor may provide prophylactic treatment to prevent this known complication. So you could take them concomitantly but this decision is best reviewed between you and the prescribing doctor. As the doctor may just want you to take the Diflucan (fluconazole) if you develop symptoms. Read more...
