In brief: Absolutely
It is often easy to dismiss anxiety as a trivial problem--unless you've experienced yourself.
Quite famous people have been incapacitated by anxiety ranging from specific phobias to generalized fears. Howard hughes probably is the most well known example.

For mental behavioral problems which do not require medications (which might have to be determined by a psychiatrist), many patients will be helped immensely by a clinical psychologist who is far more likely to spend more time listening and interacting helpfully than many psychiatrists who are far too busy with more severely disturbed patients.
