What can cause low shooting pain in lower back right above the tail bone?

Back/Sacrum Pain. The back is made up of 5 vertebra and their adjacent discs. The lowest disc is connected to the sacrum, and the coccyx (tailbone) is connected to the sacrum. Sacral pain can develop from one of many of these contiguous structures. It is possible that your pain is coming from a disc, the bone, the spinal joints (facets), sacroiliac joint, ligaments, tendons, or muscles. See your doc to find out.
Disc herniation? Does it travel down the leg? If so what pattern? Into the thigh?Shin? Foot?
