In brief: Probably not
Unlike many other physicians, i believe that chronic fatigue syndrome is real, and an immune disturbance due to some unknown virus or viruses.
However, if people were dying of it, we'd almost certainly recognize some characteristic lesion. If you have cfs, good luck -- it generally remits after a while, and low-dose antidepressants and/or simply practicing new life skills seems to help some.

In brief: No.
No one dies of cfs.
Remeber, it is a syndrome with no specific diagnostic marker. Most causes for chronic fatigue syndrome, miss a common and correctable problem. If you truly have cfs, it will not kill you. However, if you forgo exercise and don't maintain a good weight, these factors will hasten anyone's demise!
