In brief: One model

There are some models in place.
I was trained in the biloxi mississippi vamc treatment model for ptsd by a social worker who was a trainer for the va. It includes group therapy, family therapy, psychotropic medications, cognitive behavioral therapy and vast psychoeducation. The psychoeducation is broken down into a number of specific modules. It is an excellent and effective model.

In brief: Work in progress

With the wars in afghanistan and iraq our military is busy recruiting a lot of mental health workers to address the large number of soldiers needing ptsd treatment.
Protocols are being developed but a standardized treatment plan is still in the works. There are medications and a variety of therapies available and there has been much progress made in the past few years.

In brief: PTSD

No. As people are different, so are the treatments that each might require - there is no recipe for treatment of any particular mental health condition.
Individual differences account for the lack of a standardized treatment protocol in ptsd.

In brief: Meds psychotherapy

Get a full psychiatric evaluation to assess for PTSD symptoms, and see if medications are warranted.
Next, find a reputable psychotherapist nearby who specializes in PTSD. Generally speaking, meds and psychotherapy together are the best approach.
