Why is heart burn giving me a sore throat sometimes?

Acid reflux. Backflow of stomach contents (not just acid) comes up the esophagus, and irritates the tissues of the throat; can cause hoarseness, chronic cough, throat clearing, as well as vocal cord problems, such as nodules, granulomas, etc. See md for lifestyle and medical rx. Avoid fried, greasy, fatty foods, alcohol, coffee, peppermint, large meals, lying down after eating. Elevate head of bed at night.
