In brief: Not typically

Much is done to have your experience be as comfortable as possible, but there is always some discomfort involved.
Most of the discomfort occurs the day after surgery as your body adjusts.

In brief: Not really

The most common patient complaint after surgery is a stuffy nose.
Pain is generally mild. Prescription analgesics are usually received for the first 24 hours or so, and most patients take no more than extra strength Tylenol (acetaminophen) after the first 24-48 hours.

In brief: No

When you wake up you will be comfortable.
The surgeon will have injected your nose with local anesthetic (numbness) and the anesthesiology professional and recovery room staff will make certain that you are not in pain. As a rule, pain after rhinoplasty is modest.

In brief: Some but not bad

Even though most rhinoplasties are done with a general anesthetic (you are completely asleep) the nose is still completely numbed with local anesthetic.
This not only reduces bruising and bleeding but also greatly reduces the pain. Most often the pain is fairly mild and is minimal after a week. Since nasal packing is rarely used inside the nose today, the recovery is much easier than is used to be.
