Is there a test that is comparable to the nuclear cardiac stress test?

Depends. It depends what your doctor is looking for. Ultrasound, cardiac ct and MRI may be able to show how strong your heart is beating (ejection fraction) and if there is any wall motion abnormalities. Cardiac ct and MRI can even look at the vessels, which nuclear scans cannot. However, nuclear cardiac scans are considered the standard of care for looking at how well the blood perfuses the heart tissue.
Exercise EKG Test. Stress test using the persons own ekg is the better, more sensitive & accurate, choice for all individuals I have seen over the last 30 years when both done on same person. Nuclear promoted as more “high-tech” & sensitive, but also expensive (higher doc income) & inferior; all I have seen. However, none of these detect anything without very advanced disease. Thus do not recommend; better options.

How precise is a nuclear cardiac stress test?

Fairly but not entir. It is 80-90% reliable. But if you have angina oranychest pain thenyou must have a coronaryangiogram done to check the health of your coronary arteries. Read more...
Depends... Exercise stress tests are performed until a patient reaches target heart rate. If target heart rate is not reached, the test is often converted to a pharmacologic test for adequate sensitivity. The tracer used can affect the test. Myocardial perfusion spect with dual isotope or single isotope are susceptible to attenuation artifacts. Cardiac pet is not as susceptible and has better resolution. Read more...
nuclear stress. All tests have sensitivity and specificity and each lab has its own data. In the best labs these values for this test are >85% sens/spec., there are many technical factors. We choose tests by the information needed and the best test o get us what we need to know. Read more...

I'm afraid to take a nuclear cardiac stress test because it sounds radioactive. Is it dangerous?

No. It uses a very low dose of a radioactive chemical that dissipates quickly after administration. It's not much different than a ct scan. Read more...
Nope. There is radioactivity involved, but the dose is not considered in the range that it presents a risk and is comparable with other radiology exams. If a physician is ordering the exam, there is typically a good reason that would present more of a "risk" than the nuclear scan. I would not worry about the word "nuclear" in the test and take care of your heart. Read more...

Like others, I dread the cardiac stress test or nuclear medicine test. What else is there that can better take its place at general 6 month exam? CT?

Test. Dread? First is the question of do you need any test? If there is some information needed for decision making, the question of which test then comes into play. Discussing suggested testing with your doc is best course. If the doctor doesn't need the information, you don't need the test. All tests have pluses and minuses but patients often ask for what they don't need. Read more...

What is the name of the cardiac stress test drug?

Cardiac stress test. There are various drugs we use during cardiac stress testing with imaging. For routine treadmill or bicycle exercise stress testing without imaging, no drugs are used. When we do perfusion imaging we use thallium 201 or sestamibi for the imaging. We do use adenosine and other agents to facilitate the myocardial perfusion imaging especially if exercise isn't done. How accurate is a completed cardiac stress test in ruling out heart problems in a person with no personal or family history of heart disease?

Not very... It looks like you are trying to predict a cardiac event in someone with a low probability of cardiac disease (a healthy person) the best example i can use is this. Can an eye exam predict a car crash? In people with normal eyes, probably not. But if the people you are all testing have eye problems, that eye test is much more predictive. If probability of heart disease is low, stress test less help. Read more...
