Appendix, colon cancer and abdominal hernia mesh implant scar tissue causing periodic bowel obstructions. Can anything be done about the scar tissue?

Yes. Imagine your intestines are like a rope in a bucket with glue poured over them. The glue would represent the scar tissue, and could be holding a single part of the intestine in a position that makes it prone to twist and intermittently obstruct. This can be released with an operation, best attempted laparoscopically (open causes comparatively more scar tissue). Can't remove scar tissue though.
Enterolysis. In general, no. Surgery to remove scar tissue will merely generate more scar tissue. Many times a procedure known as lysis of adhesions or enterolysis can be performed, but this is usually as a last resort when the patient becomes completely obstructed. Bear in mind that surgery will precipitate scar tissue any way you slice it. A cure for scar tissue/adhesions merits the nobel prize...
NO , Surgery only . For complications like complete obstruction not resolving by non operative means , bowel erosion into mesh causing fistulas , abscess formation etc only , you can not clear adhesions and scar tissue , as more will form, with time adhesions will settle , during episodes stay on liquids , when lieing down change position will help , surgery may result fistulas , & added complications.
