In brief: Define it
Most rashes that people think are allergic, aren't.
Contact dermatitis is treated by avoiding the allergen and using steroid creams; hives are treated with antihistamines. But the first thing to do is figure out what it is. See your primary care doctor; if you think it's allergic, you can see an allergist, or a dermatologist will be able to help.

In brief: Avoidance
The most important thing is to avoid contact with whatever you are allergic to that caused the rash.
Over the counter topical products such as Diphenhydramine or Hydrocortisone cream can help with the rash as well. If you have any other symptoms besides the rash such as difficulty breathing or wheezing you should get to an emergency room immediately.

other anthistamine like claritin/clarinex/allegra/zyrtec would be also available. In some cases- these will clear up the allergic rash better/faster than benadryl.
