Pharmacology

In brief: PPI Choices

Nexium, dexilant, (dexlansoprazole) protonix, prilosec, Omeprazole are all in the family called proton pump inhibitors or ppis.
In theory, all of these drugs should work equally well and most hospitals stock only one and interchange them. However, occasionally, there is the rare patient that responds to one better than others in the same ppi class. However, i consider the drugs therapeutically equivalent.
