Hep C. No! If you have hepatitis c, you should not have unprotected sex otherwise you will be putting your partner at risk.
Very unlikely. Hepatits C has been oversold as an STD. In fact, the only proved sexual transmission is between gay men with potentially traumatic anal sex practices. The frequency of hep C in the heterosexual partners of infected persons is exactly the same as in anyone else. To be maximally safe, use condoms if you have sex with a partner known to have hep C. Otherwise no worries about sexual transmission.
If I had unprotected sex in august and October would an hep c antibody test be accurate if taken in December?
Not necessarily. If you caught Hep C in October, you may not have antibody in December. You should get tested again. In some cases it may take longer than 6 months for antibodies to appear. A more reliable test at this stage would be Hep C nucleic acid test.
My boyfriend has hep c we have had unprotected sex and now I have pain under the right side of my rib cage what could be wrong?
Hepatitis C. Hepatitis (A, B, and C) can be transmitted sexually. You need to be seen for testing and start using condoms to decrease your risk. Be safe!
Can you get hep c through unprotected sex? My ex told me he had it after we got done. When we were dating I'm assuming he had it since he shot up drugs but I want to make sure I don't have it!!!
Low risk, get tested. As I answered your other question, you are at little or no risk of hepatitis C from your former partner. It't not sexually transmitted nearly as often as some people say. To the extent you were at risk from him, it was more because of the possiblity of blood exposure than sex. But to be certain, have a test. If you have not otherwise been at risk for hep C, you can expect a negative result.
Hep C AB negative at 99 days after possible exposed (unprotected sex M on F) - I am a relatively healthy adult. Is this conclusive? Percentages?
Likely negative. You are very likely not infected. The virus does take time to replicate. The early antibodies would form in a few weeks followed by late antibodies. Since you have neither it is unlikely.
What is the earliest time I can test for HIV and hep c? Unprotected sex 5 wks ago, I suffer from anxiety. He pulled out but unsure of his status
Now and in 6 months. Get tested now and repeat the tests in 6 months. It would be good to get nucleic acid tests for both HIV and HCV. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine.
I learned that my boyfriend has hep C. We had unprotected sex while I on my period. I know it's not an STD but What is the chance of it being passed?
Hep C can be an STD. The most common way Hepatitis C is spread is by sharing needles with someone who has hepatitis C. But you can also get it by having sex with someone who has it. You are at some risk of acquiring this infection anytime you have sex with someone who has hepatitis C. This risk can be lowered (but not to zero) by wearing condoms. Other methods of contraception offer little protection. Best wishes.
Check. The only way to tell would be to check. Bring it up at your next well visit and based on the results you will know. Having partners known with hepatitis C will increase your chance.
I am a male and wondering if I am allowed to have unprotected sex to have a child, if I have hepatitis c?
Hepatitis C. Yes, the risk of transmission of hepatitis c during vaginal intercourse is thought be negligable and is not contraindicated for couple desiring to concieve a child.
Risk lower than HIV. There is some question on the transmission of hcv in a serodiscordant couples - with little if any virus found in seminal fluid - however, if sexual practice incurs small tears in the skin, then blood exposure is possible. A study in 2003 (sex transm infect 2003;79:160–162) demonstrated no hcv transmission in serodiscordant couples. Based on current data, go ahead.
