I had a hysterectomy in 2011 I still have my ovaries. Will I still go thru menopause? Lately I've had what seems like hot and cold flashes
Menopause. Every female "goes through" menopause, whether surgically (ovaries removed) or naturally (avg age 50yo). However, not every female complains of hot flashes or night sweats, etc. Whether irregular periods develop depends upon whether you still have uterus. Those who've had a hysterectomy but still retain their ovaries, obviously haven't menstruated since operation but can report menopausal symptoms.
Yes. Menopause is caused by ovaries shutting down and producing less of the usual hormones due to age. Women will experience the systemic symptoms such as hot flashes and sleep disturbances as they approach menopause even if the uterus has been removed. Your doctor can check hormone levels in your blood to see if you are approaching menopause since the usual menstrual symptoms won't be seen.
