Whatis the difference between ulcerativecolitis and diverticulitis?

Different things. Different, unrelated conditions. Ulcerative colitis is a chronic life-long inflammation & ulcer formation afftecting the wall of the entire colon, treated with anti-inflammatory type medications. Diverticulitis is a temporary condition of localized infection of small pouches in a small portion of the colon, treated with antibiotics. Rarely surgery for either condition, but very different operation.

Some- read on... People with uc are at higher risk for colorectal cancer- this is due to the chronic inflammation of the bowel lining. Diverticulitis is rarely seen in uc. Occasionally, someone with colonic crohn's disease will also have colon diverticula noted, but it is controversial whether someone with crohn's colitis can have diverticulitis distinct from the crohn's.
