In brief: West is best

Traveling from west to east is harder because our circadian rhythm won't let us fall asleep earlier than we're conditioned to do.
Going from east to west is easier, because we can stay up later while it's light out better than falling asleep earlier when it's dark.

In brief: JetLag

Jet lag is general is the inability of your intrinsic circadian rhythm (internal clock) to adjust to the new time zone after you have traveled so rapidly across.
With regard to jet lag in general, it generally occurs when traveling across more than 3 times zone for greater than 48-72 hours. Jet lag is worse when traveling east as opposed to west. I would recommend checking out www.Thejetlagmd.Com.

In brief: Time travel

Jet lag is any time travel but it is usually most pronounced e-w.
You've lost time. Also body is not able to sleep as late in morning because it feels like it is later, so people get up earlier than they would.
