Too broad. If the valve is replaced in a timely fashion then life expectancy is good. If left untreated and is severe, life expectancy is severly limited. The ultimate measure of the pts long term mortality is the left ventricular ejection fraction. The more normal it is the better the mortality rates.
AI. Aortic regurgitation is well compensated for years, usually. Once congestive heart failure occurs due to aortic regurgitation, survival is usually less than 5 years.
Variable. Many patients live a full life with aortic insufficincy. However if the disease produces CHF or left heart dysfunction replcement is necessary. Pts with valve issues are at increased ridk for endocarditis. Hence antibiotics for dental work and other invasive procedures.
