In brief: Eczema
A form of eczema can be inherited and not obviously related to allergies.
This is termed atopic dermatitis. Some cases do have sensitivities affiliated with them. Another non allergic eczema is called irritant dermatitis. About 60% of workplace eczema is of this type caused by solvents and other chemicals. Certain chemicals at home can also be irritating.

In brief: Eczema
Eczema is not an allergy.
It is a genetic trait usually associated with dry skin. Individuals with this, and their relatives, also have a high frequency of asthma and rhinitis- sinusitis. Allergy tests should be avoided because of false results. Food is almost never a factor. Antihistamines are not useful. Dermatologists can make a huge difference. Allergists are not for eczema.

In brief: Heredity.
Those with an atopic diathesis (keratosis pilaris, asthma, hay fever, sinusitus, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis) inherit their susceptibility to these conditions which may be exacerbated by environmental factors, like pollen and pet dander. Sometimes the exacerbating factor can remain unidentified or simply be attributed to physical or mental "stress.
