If we can breathe thousands of times a day without feeling any problems, why do some people get costochondritis?

In brief: Costochondritis

Costochondritis is a common cause of chest wall pain, although the cause isn't always clear, in fact sometimes after a thorough history i still cannot determine the cause.
Sometimes there is a clear cause - someone has a respiratory infection and has been coughing, or an athlete has been exerting him/herself wt lifting or direct trauma from a contact sport. See your dr to confirm the diagnosis!
