Is it safe to walk next to a bee hive, or do bees come after you like mosquitoes do?

In brief: Usually ok

Generally speaking - if you leave the bees alone, they will leave you alone.
With that said - if you are close to their hive, then you risk disturbing them, which could lead to a sting. So walk carefully by.

In brief: Not so smart

Bees can be very protective of their hives.
If one is at a respectful distance then one is probably ok. Other "bees" like yellow jackets and hornets are very sensitive to vibrations so walking close by could upset them and they will come out and protect their hive.
