I have a very bad cough. I have a hard time breathing in without coughing. I was prescribed a Z-pack and Mucinex (guaifenesin) D for sinus infection. Bronchospasm?

See doc again. If you have a hard time breathing, you need to get checked again and hopefully get a lung function test or even a chest xray. On the other hand, trouble breathing in is more suggestive of obstruction at the upper airway and not the lung. Once we have the lung function and/or chest x-ray finding, we will have a better chance in pinning down the cause. Zpak may not work for sinusitis. Read more...

Had head cold and doc said he could hear it in my chest a little just got off z pack and still on Mucinex (guaifenesin) at night still get fever around 101 scared?

Bronchitis. In my opinion, Z-pack is completely inadequate for treating any significant bacterial infection. Talk to your doctor about a real antibiotic with proper broad spectrum coverage such as Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) if not penicillin allergic or Bactrim if you are, along with anti-inflammatory and bronchodilator with Mucinex for proper pulmonary toilet. All that stuff you mentioned, including your nasal mucus, lung sputum, mouth saliva and whatever else your mucus membranes can cook-up, can and most likely will taste salty.Maybe you're just starting to taste that because your taste buds were blunted to begin with from your stuffy nose or you are now getting dehydrated and the salt content is increasing due to that. In any event, drink more fluids. Read more...
