In brief: Oral hygiene

Bad breath has many causes.
Most of the time it is the result of bacteria causing gingivitis or worse periodontitis. This can be avoided by regular brushing, flosing and visits to your dentist. I did not include mouth wash because it will only masks the problem allowing it to become much worse before you have to deal with it.

If you already have a good oral hygiene routine, it could be dehydration make sure to drink plenty of water. Eating desserts at night before bed and not brushing your teeth can show up as bad breath in the morning. A whole list of medical conditions also cause bad breath, diabetes is the most common.

In brief: Oral health first

Brush, floss, clean your tongue and see your dentist regularly to have your teeth cleaned.
Chew xylitol gums or mints. Dehydration and dry mouth can be a factor..If all this is great then see md for other causes like acid reflux, diabetes, allergies, GI problems, hormonal problem, and more.

In brief: Possible

If it is not regular it could be what you are eating, it could be a stomach problem it could be you need to clean your tongue or you are not flossing correctly.
You need to floss 7-10 times/tooth and there should be no bleeding.
