Twenty years old with varicose veins behind the knee? Does age matter when getting these?

In brief: Yes

Varicose veins can be a genetic predisposition .
Just because you have some doesn't mean you'll get more. More commen in women but seen in men as well. Surgery is available to remove the dilated veins but don't recommend at your age.

In brief: Age and VV

Genetics play a major role in varicose vein formation and in young males there is usually always a hereditary component.
Often times in young people with varicose veins the dad is the person who had the vein problems or both the dad and mom. If you have a varicose vein problem then you should see a vein specialist for further recommendations.

In brief: Yes and no

Genetics plays a role with a predisposition or tendency for formationand some early childhood prominent veins could be due to a congenital vascular malformation.
Compression stockings may help prevent worsening but chemical or surgical ablation following diagnostic ultrasound is a reasonable approach.
