In brief: Generally incurable
Mesothelioma is cancer of the pleura.
The covering of the lung is called visceral pleura and the lining of the chest wall is called parietal pleura. This is a cancer that is generally incurable unless small and localized, although it is diffuse or has spread to adjacent tissues or organ, by the time it is diagnosed. Treatment is multi-modality. Commonly it is associated with asbestos exposure.
