My brother has developed chronic pancreatitis. What is it exactly?

Scarring in panc. Chronic inflammation of pancres (digestive and endocrine organ), generally as a consequence of chronic alcohol use. Can cause chronic pain (usually worse after eating); maldigestion of (primarily) fats, with foul smelling, greasy stool, weight loss; maldigestion of carbohydrates and protein; diabetes that may be poorly controllable. Can be treated with meds, occ surgery.
Chronic pancreatitis. Injury has affected the patient which now show some signs of scaring. He should see a pancreas expert.
