In brief: Evaluate cartilage

Minor injuries effecting the soft tissues only are likely to heal uneventfully but injuries involving the cartilage should be evaluated and may require approximation or disrupted cartilage and/or antibiotics.

approximation = sutures/steristrips to bring edges together for better healing

The concern is whether the wound can get infected or not.Should make sure the immunisation status aganst tetanus and if there is any concern about contaminated wound should have prophylactic antibiotic cover.Perichondritis of ear is not a pretty thing.

In brief: That depends

If you are talking about ear piercing then cleansing with an antibacterial or just soap and water is imperative.
Silver ion compounds also sulfur, zinc, and copper solutions are very effective.
