In brief: Yes but

The tricky part is knowing when ovulation occurs.
The best or simplest home self-help way to know is by getting familiar with basal body temperature , and using it.

In brief: Yes

You have to release an egg in order to get pregnant.
Following ovulation , the egg is capable of being fertilized for 12-24 hours. And appx 5-6 days after fertilization, implantation into the uterus occurs.
