In brief: Verify palpitations

Not all palpitations correlate with an irregular heartbeat.
When you feel palpitations, check your pulse at neck or wrist with index finger, to get rate and whether regular or not. Keep a log and see if your palpitations happen after drinking alcohol, coffee, or energy drinks, decongestan, or when sleep-deprived. If they are, the first thing to do is stop using those products, and get more sleep.

In brief: When you worry??

You are worried already that's why you ask the question -- you have noted this irregularity in your heart beat -- so at least get a physical, an ECG and some basic labs any primary care should know if you haven't had one in the past 5 years -- also alcohol can make palpitations worse and is toxic to all organ system fyi.
