Is the 2mg film strip Suboxone used in tapering a patient's dosage to the point of totally doing without the medication?

In brief: Yes

You can even cut that in half or quarters.
Eventually some patients can get onto Naltrexone or vivitrol which is just an opiate blocker and not a replacement.

That would be the ideal goal. To taper you down till you don't withdraw and don't need it anymore. However, many patients start having cravings once they stop. That is why AA or NA meetings are so important .

In brief: Yes

Subaxone2/0.5 mg can be used after maintenance and counselling to taper off subaxone for opiod dependence.
