In brief: OA vs RA

Arthritis is a group of over one hundred different conditions so i will discuss the two most common types.
Osteoarthritis (oa) is best prevented by exercising, maintaining normal body weight, and avoiding injury. The chance of developing rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can be lessened by not smoking.

In brief: Healthy weight

3 biggest causative factors for arthritis: age, weight and injury.
We can't control our age. Keeping your weight at a healthy level (body mass index 19-25 for most) is very important. Keeping the muscles strong around the joint will help to "unload" and the protect the joint itself while reducing the chance of micro or major injury.

In brief: Avoid injury

Plenty of conditioning exercises, good nutrition, and exercises that continuously move the joints help avoid arthritis.
(osteoarthritis). Inflammatory arthritis is harder to avoid if one already has it. There are reports that decreasing animal protein intake helps reduce inflammatory flare-ups!

In brief: Nutrient dense foods

Eat foods that are nutrient dense (like meat, fish, poultry, eggs, cheese, low starch vegatables and water) avoid foods that are not nutrient dense (like starches and sugars, including fruit) nutrient dense foods will increase your basal metabolic rate.
On the other hand, starches and sugars impair thyroid metabolism via affects on your liver (which helps activate thyroid hormone).
