They say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. What about ankylosing spondylitis?

In brief: Wrong Problem
Although this is a good saying, you are applying it to the wrong problem. The only way i know of preventing ankylosing spondylitis is to choose better parents, with better genes.
There is a hereditary predisposition to the problem that is outside of your control.

In brief: Early diagnosis
Early diagnosis is worth a pound of cure.
There is no prevention of ankylosing spondylitis but early diagnosis, and thus proper treatment, may prevent some of the long term complications of as. For example, biologic response modifier therapy has prevented spinal fusion in some individuals.

In brief: Hard to prevent
Ankylosing spondylitis has a strong hereditary component and since we cannot choose our genes there is not alot to say about prevention.
