In brief: Infection
Bronchitis is infalmation of the large bronchi (breathing tubes) of our upper part of our airway.
Most are caused by a virus in pediatrics but can be caused by a bacteria in some. It causes you to cough. Those caused by a virus will go away in time without madication. Asthma is a type of bronchitis too.

In brief: Acute or chronic?
Acute bronchitis is an infection of the airways which leads to acute inflammation.
It is either bacterial or viral and is usually associated w/cold sxs as well. Chronic bronchitis is when the airways become inflamed usually related to smoking. It is associated w/ a cough productive of sputum and no cold sxs. There is no cure for this but there are meds to control sxs. Smoking cessation is vital.
