In brief: Clarify please
What is it specifically that is confusing? That would help us focus on the concept that is difficult to understand.

Infections can occur in the brain tissue itself, or in the structure surrounding the brain and spinal cord. The tissue which surrounds these is called the meninges, and inflammation of this is called meningitis. There are several other types of infection (epidural, subdural, etc.) based on their location.
