Doctor approval. You would need to ask your doctor about this. Valium is dosed differently than xanax (alprazolam). It will stay in your system much longer than xanax (alprazolam). I suggest that you ask your prescribing physician about this change. Read more...

Sometimes this is because of partial sedation or loss of focus, which can be upsetting; this should improve with dose reduction. Sometimes it is due to impaired ability to read/respond to your surroundings, which can be frightening. Read more...

Hi I was just recently switched from Xanax (alprazolam) 2mg to Valium 5 mg been on Xanax (alprazolam) for 9 yrs am scared?

Don't be scared. Somebody's doing you a favor. Xanax (alprazolam) is an awful drug to use chronically. Your doctor switched you to a long-acting benzodiazepine to help you get past the xanax (alprazolam) withdrawal (that's often mistaken for panic). The next step down the road will be to deal with your anxiety without any benzodiazepines. There are better drugs plus cognitive behavioral therapy if you'll just be patient. Read more...

How often do you see paradoxical reactions to Valium and xanax (alprazolam)? Is it often or infrequent

Not very common. A paradoxical reaction to a med is one that causes the opposite of usual expected effect. In a benzodiazepine it would be anxiety, insomnia, over-stimulation or agitation. If this occurs, one would suspect an unidentified underlying problem as associative cause (such as bipolar disorder, thyroid disease, drug abuse). In any case, discontinuation would be indicated & a search for other causes made. Read more...
