Depends on character of fracture and location.
Many fractures within midportion of clavicle can be treated with supportive care and allowed to heal on own. The exception being those that are severely fragmented, shortened, at the end of the clavicle, or where the overlying skin may be compromised. Additional injuries in the same arm may also warrant operative treatment of the clavicle.
