If your laceration has been open for more than 4-6 hours and you cut it with something dirty, you may need an update on your tetanus vaccination, and you must be very careful of infection. The skin on the feet is very close to the bones, and once an infection reaches bone, you can end up with an amputation of the digit. So it is best if you have a deeper laceration checked out by a physician
