Is it genes or lifestyle or both that make it likely to get broken heart syndrome?

In brief: Probably neither...
It is not clear what causes broken heart syndrome other than a broken heart (intense emotional stress).
It is more common in women and diabetics and thought to be related to high levels of adrenaline during such reaction. I am not sure it is correlated to genetic or life style abnormalities. If you have diabetes please do everything in your power to control it.
