Excessive sleepiness can be caused by not getting enough sleep, depression, sleep apnea (snoring & stopping breathing in sleep).
Less common causes include narcolepsy, idiopathic hypersomnia, hormonal disorders such as low thyroid, severe anemia, chronic infections, brain tumors, etc.
