I use tretinoin and benzoyl peroxide for adult acne but they are drying out my skin. Should I replace benzoyl with topical erythromycin?

Add moisiturizer. I would not get rid of the benzoyl peroxide - that is really a base staple to acne treatment. Instead, i would focus more on adding moisturizers to your regimen at least twice a day. Use unscented ones and ones with a sunscreen built in to provide extra protection. Read more...

I have adult acne. My skin can tolerate tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, and topical erythromycin. Which combo is most effective bearing in mind that combining benzoyl and erythromycin stopped working?

Something more? You're not alone. There's also topical Clindamycin -- or the option of moving on to systemic rx. I needed systemic tetracycline from my teens and was able to stop taking it when i was 50. Another systemic option that's not well-known is spironolactone. You already know that acne's not lifestyle-related and as a professional liability deserves to be treated. Best wishes. Read more...

Can I combine tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide and topical erythromycin for adult acne? If yes, in what sequence?

Yes but drying. I would try benzoyl peroxide followed by retin a (tretinoin) then Erythromycin but you could switch the order of the latter two. Of course other physicians may recommend other regimens. Your skin will likely become quite dry and may benefit from gentle exfoliation first and the use of non comedogenic moisturizers in the am with sunscreen. Read more...

Which is more effective, combining tretinoin and benzoyl peroxide or tretinoin and erythromycin?

Depends. Using tretinoin and benzoyl peroxcide can be effective- both individually can cause redness and photosensitivity. Using them together may increase this tendency- you may need additional moisturizer and/or sunscreen. The tretonin/erythromycin combination may be less irritating. It is best to check with your doctor to determine which combination is best to try. Read more...
May vary by person. The effectiveness of various treatment regimens will vary by individual and sometimes best determined by trial and error. I would recommend the tretinoin and benzoyl peroxide because resistance to the later is less likely than erythromycin. Read more...

Which works better with tretinoin, topical erythromycin or benzoyl peroxide?

Either should help. My usual sequence is to try benzoyl peroxide, then topical antibiotics (erythromycin is a good one), then topical tretinoin (they can be used in combination or separately). The tretinoin and benzoyl willl both dry your skin out. It depends on how severe your acne is and how sensitive your skin is. Read more...

What is better for cystic acne. Benzoyl peroxide or tretinoin?

CYSTIC ACNE. In my experience, medical extractions and meticulous skin care by a professional is superior to both. Accutane is the "nuclear option" and is a chemotherapy drug with many serious side effects. Since you didn't even share your age, let alone any pictures or what treatments you have had in the past, I suspect you are a very young individual and recommend you discuss this matter with your parents.
