In brief: Definitely
Offering oatmeals, barley fruits and vegetables .
Water in between feedings.Avoid apples, bananas, rice cereals and carrots, they are constipating. Parents oftentimes give them together and everyday and not aware of the effect on the baby's bowels!

In brief: Several reasons
The hardness of a baby's stools depends on several factors.
Some have slow movement of stool through the intestines, some need more fluid and/or fiber in their diet. The type of milk they drink plays a role as well. Lactulose is a type of sugar and is safe. Often, increasing the amount of fluid in the diet can help, as can fruits like prunes and plums. Talk to you doctor for specific advice.
