Is there a way to close the esophagus to prevent foul stomach odors from coming out through the mouth?

In brief: No

You wouldn't want to "close " the esophagus, but more importantly you should try to find the cause of the odor. Perhaps it could be relux disease and/or hiatal hernia.
Another possibility could be h. Pylori infection. You should see your doctor to see if there is a gastrointestinal issue that needs to be treated.
