Will I have to get poked with a needle when I get a transrectal ultrasound with prostate biopsy?

In brief: Yes
Biopsy means taking a small sample of tissue to be examined under a microscope.
This is often done using a special needle.

Also, I'm sure you'll want sedation of some sort for the test--this is either delivered directly to the prostate by injecting a Novacaine-like agent, or is given to you by IV to relax you during the procedure.

You will get poked in the arm for an iv, to give you meds, and you will get poked in your prostate (several times) for the biopsies.

The entrance of the needle is through the rectum and after the biopsy you may have blood in the urine, and many urologists recommend avoiding sex for several days after the biopsy.
