In brief: Wash hands

Good hand washing can prevent many upper respiratory infections, but most importantly, don't visit with them if they're sick.

In brief: Not really

You can use hand sanitizer but that is not going to be terribly effective when they jump all over you and cough on everything around them. Make sure you get the flu vaccine regularly and the pneumonia vaccine too.

In brief: Wash hands...

Upper respiratory infections are typically spread by inhalation of infected droplets from coughing/sneezing so, the grand kids need to cough/sneeze into their elbows! frequent hand washing has been shown to reduce spread so wash your hands often when the kids are around and wash their hands, too! good luck!

In brief: Hand washing...

Frequent hand washing as well as staying at least 3 feet away from them when they have a cold are strategies to avoid getting the cold yourself.
