In brief: Warm the muscle

Muscle cramps can be treated with heat, contrary to joints which we treat with ice.
Other things to consider are electrolyte balance. Potassium is important. Gentle stretching and medications such as muscle relaxants may also help.

In brief: Muscle cramps

Muscle cramps may have a lot of different causes, the most common being simple exercise or heavy exercise.
The best treatment of this is with a cold/ice pack for the first 72 hours, then changing to a heating pad after 72 hours. Ibuprofen will help relieve the pain. And, of course, you have to cut down on the muscular activity that induced the cramps. Severe cramps may be due to heat stroke.
