In brief: Radioactive iodine
To "get rid of" hyperthyroidism, radioactive iodine is a good option because with the correct dose, the hyperthyroidism can be permanently treated.
Medication like Methimazole is effective management too, but is not a "cure".

In some cases of hyperthyroidism, only part of thyroid is overactive. Surgery to remove only the overactive part is possibly the best treatment option. Thyroid surgery should be done at recognized center in the field. Discuss with your MD.

In brief: Depends
There are pros and cons of each of the three accepted treatments.
Taking a pill, such as methimazole, is simple and not invasive but can have side effects and requires frequent blood testing. Radioactive iodine is usually a one time treatment, followed by taking thyroid hormone, but requires a low dose radioactivity. Thyroid surgery works quickly, but is obviously a surgery.
