What kind of pills or treatment can somebody get for ear swelling?

Depends . It would depend on the reason for swelling whether due to trauma or infection. Perhaps ear drops if "swimmer's ear" but if really swollen may need oral cortisone and/or antibiotics. Be especially cautious if one has diabetes. Also could be a fungal infection as well.
