In brief: Various treatments

Imitrex, (sumatriptan) oxygen and other meds are good for cluster headaches.
If there are spots on your head that you can press (in front of your ears, your eyebrows, or temples) that make the pain go away temporarily, then a procedure to ligate the arteries of the scalp in these locations can relieve the pain in most patients.

In brief: Various

True cluster headaches are very hard to treat since any drug taken after the headache starts doesn't really have a chance to work before that episode goes away on it's own.
I have had success with Carbamazepine and Prednisone to abort the cluster of headaches. Some patients can get relief instantly from the headache by inhaling 100% oxygen.

In brief: Cluster headache Rx

Cluster headaches sometimes improve by inhaling enriched oxygen for several minutes.
No other headache responds like this! Presumably, the oxygen changes the blood flow to vessels behind the eye, relieving a sort of neuro-vascular tension. Since oxygen is not available everywhere, some patients discover this in the emergency room. Triptan medicines are also helpful, many prescribe these.

In brief: Cluster Headache

is the most painful of all the primary headache disorders.
Management of a cluster headache can be abortive or prophylactic. Sometimes, both methods are indicated in the same patient. An effective abortive treatment uses oxygen at a flow rate of 7-10 liters per minute. The treatment of choice for the prevention of both episodic and chronic cluster headache is verapamil.

In brief: Sumatriptan + Oxygen

Cluster headaches are considered the most intense pain that exists and must be treated appropriately.
To stop the headache itself, a "triptan" drug usually helps. Sumatriptan is a very rapidly acting injectable form. Some patients find relief with 100% oxygen. The whole cluster of headaches can be stopped with verapamil, or other drugs. See a doctor with experience managing cluster headaches.

In brief: See comments

Do you really have cluster headaches which is usually a specific disorder afflicting middle aged men? The term is often misused for frequent migraine events.
Regardless, if you have frequent events, start taking a preventative medication such as Depakote or Inderal (propranolol) or timolol, or topirimate. A breakthrough headache might respond to breathing 100% oxygen over 3-5 minutes. Botox may be useful.
