In brief: Antihistamines

Hives tend to move and migrate, come an go, are itching, and usually don't last for more than 24 hours.
1st generation antihistamines will work the fastest, such as benadryl (diphenhydramine). For longer lasting effect, taking a daily 2nd generation antihistamine such as zyrtec, claritin, or allergra will be helpful. If they persist, seeing an allergist would be helpful for prescription medications and work up.
